The Burj Allaqlal junior football team of the staff club won on Sunday the “Al Massira” junior football tournament cup and the first financial prize, after defeating in the finals the Sour Baher junior team. The third place went to Jabel Mukaber team after a win over the Islami Silwan club.
The tournament was organized by the “Children for Al Quds” club, an offshoot of Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency, in cooperation with the Moroccan cultural center in Al Quds–Bayt Al Maghrib-.
A total of 150 young players from 10 clubs took part in the sports contest. The contest was organized according to the eliminatory formula where two top teams of each group make it to the quarter-finals while the winners make it to the finals and then the classification matches.
During the prize-awarding ceremony held at the Burj Allaqlal stadium in the old city, the coordinator of the Agency’s programs and projects, Ismail Arramli stressed that this event “is part of the Agency’s 2023 summer program and embodies the interest taken by the Agency in all social sectors in Al Quds, as instructed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI –chairman of Al Quds Committee, may God protect him.
He also underscored the Agency’s interest in the sectors of childhood, youth and sports, through a set of activities, including the “summer schools program” in Al Quds for about 3,000 kids from the city, under the kind supervision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI may God protect him.
On his part, the executive manager of Burj Allaqlal club, Mountasser Adkik, who was present at the prize awarding ceremony together with representatives of the League of Al Quds clubs, the members of the competing clubs and other leading figures, stressed that the participants “praise the role of Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency in organizing and supervising this tournament held in the sports field of Burj Allaqlaq that will remain an incubator for young people and children of Al Quds and an Arab and Palestinian location, despite all the challenges it is facing.”
Taking the floor, the representative of the League of Clubs, Badr Mekki, expressed consideration to Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency for contributing to supporting this tournament, especially that the city of Al Quds is in dire need of this type of activities held for Al Quds teams.” He also noted that the competition has helped several talents with a shining future to spring up.
The following teams vied for the tournament cup: Jabel Mukaber, Jabel Azzaitoune, Sour Baher, Silwan, Aisaouia, Islami Silwan, Hilal Al Quds, Al Ansar and Islami Sour Baher, in addition to the staff club of Burj Alluqluq which hosted the competition.
The organizers also distributed encouragement medals to the best goal-keeper, best player, top scorer (two players) and four promising players.
