Rabat, May 3, 2024
The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency in Rabat will host a ceremony on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to honor the winners of the Journalism Excellence Awards in Development Media. This annual event is organized in collaboration with the Higher Institute of Media and Communication in Rabat and the Modern Media Institute of Al-Quds University.
The agency will also hold a scientific symposium at its headquarters in Rabat, focusing on “The Reality of Journalism and Journalists in Conflict Zones – Jerusalem and Palestine as Examples.” The symposium will feature contributions from Moroccan and Palestinian media figures and researchers.
This year’s course is named after the late Moroccan journalist Mohamed Al-Aghtaf Al-Dah, former director of Al-Oyoun Channel, and honors the memory of the late Palestinian journalist Mahmoud Maarouf. The event will be attended by jury members for the second edition of the award, from Morocco and Palestine, as well as the professors participating in the symposium and the winning students.
The Medal of Courage and Valor, awarded by the agency’s Rabat Observatory for Observation, Tracking, and Evaluation in Jerusalem, will be presented to journalists who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and commitment to the values of freedom and justice. On this occasion, a grant to support press freedom in Palestine will also be awarded to two media institutions selected by the Observatory team from Jerusalem.
The establishment of the Al-Quds Al-Sharif Award for Journalism Excellence in Development Media reflects the agency’s commitment to highlighting the humanitarian and social dimensions of solidarity in its work, following the high royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to support the Palestinians and their institutions.
This award aims to foster generational awareness of the Palestinian issue and encourage students of media and communication sciences in Morocco and Jerusalem to research and produce work on topics related to the reality and future of the city of Jerusalem. It aligns with the agency’s focus on development issues concerning Jerusalem in the social, economic, and humanitarian fields.
