Tangier, August 12, 2024
As part of the 15th edition of the summer camp held in Morocco for the benefit of Jerusalem’s children, and under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, the “Yacoub Al Mansour Al Mouwahhidi” Girls’ Basketball and Boys’ Indoor Football Tournament commenced today at the Ziaten Indoor Hall in Tangier, featuring the participation of both Moroccan and Palestinian children.
This tournament, organized by the Regional Academy of Education and Training for the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and the Regional Directorate of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Youth Sector, aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the young participants from Morocco and Palestine. It also seeks to emphasize the importance of sports as a catalyst for building children’s character based on values of commitment, diligence, effort, generosity, and fair competition.
In the girls’ basketball competition, two teams from Jerusalem and Morocco went head-to-head, while the boys’ indoor football tournament featured three teams from each region. Four teams have advanced to vie for the tournament’s symbolic prizes, highlighting the deep-rooted solidarity between Moroccan and Palestinian generations throughout history. This enduring support mirrors the historical commitment of Moroccans to their Palestinian counterparts, exemplified by the naval military campaign to liberate Jerusalem during the era of Sultan Yacoub Al Mansour Al Mouwahhidi.
The tournament’s closing ceremony will take place the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, to honor the winners. The celebration will include artistic performances and fun activities by Moroccan and Palestinian children. Attendees will include representatives from the tournament organizers and children from the summer camps being held at the Diplomatic Forest in Tangier.
The current session of the Jerusalem Children’s Camp, organized by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency (BMAQ) in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, will continue with visits to various areas in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
The program includes educational trips, competitions, recreational activities, and opportunities for the children from Jerusalem to meet and interact with Moroccan children at their summer camps in the Diplomatic Forest in Tangier.
In parallel with the summer camp in Morocco, which benefits 50 boys and girls from Jerusalem along with 5 supervisors, the BMAQ Agency launched the Summer Schools Program in Jerusalem at the start of August. This initiative benefits 4,000 children across 17 schools and clubs located in different neighborhoods and villages within the governorate.
