Rabat – July 25
Acting Director of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif agency, Dr. Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui, stressed that the population of Al Quds, be they Muslims or Christians, have great respect and consideration for His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al Quds Committee, who supervises the Committee’s action with a practical and realistic approach, the political and legal process followed by the Moroccan diplomacy and the social field action carried out by the Agency in fulfilling its mission with the needed wisdom, patience and commitment.
“Moroccans hold a special place in Al Quds and in the land of Palestine” and this place was consolidated owing to the sacrifices they have made all along periods of history and are still making, together with their brethren from this blessed land, said Echarkaoui, who was guest to the main news bulletin of the Moroccan TV channel “Al Oula”.
He went on to say that the Moroccans’ attachment to Al Quds and its blessed mosque dates back to over a thousand years and is still going on today, as is reflected by the symbols and evidence showing the bonds of blood and affinity between the Moroccan and Al Quds families.
Whoever has visited Al Quds must have heard of Azzawyia Al Maghribia, located on the western side of the walls of the blessed Al Quds mosque, Al Bayt Al Maghribi located on the intersection between the Via Dolorosa and Bab Al Ghawanma avenue and Al Malikyia mosque, inside the walls of Al Aqsa Mosque, which hosts presently the acquisitions of the Islamic museum, including “Arrobaa Al Maghribia” and a copy of the holy Koran that was donated by the Sultan Abu Al Marini to Al Aqsa Mosque.
Regarding the social action of the Rabat-based Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency, Echarkaoui stressed that despite its limited resources, the agency has been tirelessly carrying on its duty to provide Palestinian institutions in Al Quds with funds to help them continue to extend their services in the health, education and housing sectors.
He also noted that the Kingdom of Morocco is committed to earmark an annual amount of 1.5 million USD to the Agency, an offshoot of Al Quds Committee which itself stems from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to cover its operation expenses, which helps it devote all of the donations to projects in Al Quds without interruption.
As a conclusion, he stressed that the Agency does not impose any conditions on Al Quds institutions to finance projects, except for making sure that the funds actually reach the persons who deserve them. In this context, it grants utmost importance to human development and social assistance projects, especially in the context of the swift changes and the hard challenges facing the city and its inhabitants.
